Return to Rare Spheres
Yttrium Fluorite is an interesting and rather rare stone. It is fluorite (CaF2) with some of the calcium replaced by Yttrium. Yttrium also causes the fluorescence in fluorite and in this sphere glows yellow under SW UV.
Dale made the sphere. The stone is rather opaque and has a very light pinkish lavender color. He cut it from a specimen of botryoidal yttrium fluorite. That is why there is a beautiful honeycomb pattern on the surface of the sphere.
The sphere has a 1.26″ diameter (32 mm).
Origin: Mexico.
