2.3″ Rare Schalenblende Egg Sphalerite Wurtzite EG36
Return to Gemstone Eggs
Here’s a rare schalenblende egg. It is not only rare but also elegant, with amazingly intricate patterns.
Schalenblende is a mixture of sphalerite, wurtzite, galena, and pyrite/marcasite.
The egg is very nicely made and has a great polish.

Sphalerite and wurtzite are fluorescent and this egg is stunning under LW UV. I included photos taken under a black light. The colors are mostly orange and yellow and brighter than in the photos.
This egg is a great collectors’ item, very decorative, and it will stand out in a fluorescent display case.
Based on its largest dimensions, it is 2.3″ tall (58.4 mm) and 1.6″ wide. It weighs about 7.5oz.
Origin: Schalenblende occurs in various parts of the world and I believe the material for this egg comes from Germany.
