Return to Agate Spheres
This limb cast agate sphere is large and gorgeous.
Limb casts are not fossils (in this case, not petrified wood) but rather just a cast of a part of a tree limb filled with minerals. No wood structure is visible in casts.
Dale made the sphere and he did a great job. The sphere is fairly large for its kind and has a beautiful polish. The dark sections have a slight uneven feel but pleasant. This is because the various minerals (i.e. inclusions in the agate) have different hardnesses. The agate is translucent to transparent and has nice fortifications and quartz crystals with a small vug.
The sphere has about a 3.3″ diameter (83.9 mm) and it weighs about 1.7lbs.
