This rare fossil woolly mammoth molar sphere is rare and exquisite. The fossil molar is from the Pleistocene Epoch that spanned from 1.8 million to 10,000 years ago.
Dale made this sphere and he did an outstanding job (it takes great skill to make a sphere from a woolly mammoth tooth).
The sphere has wonderful coloration and exhibits a lot of detail.
The sphere has a 1.9″ diameter (48 mm) and it weighs about 4.2 oz. Origin: Poland.

1.8″ Fossil Whale Bone Sphere SPF51
Dale and I collected the material for this whale bone sphere at Jalama Beach, California about 25 years ago. I remember, it was a very long hike on the beach at low tide. We found lots of whale bone and still have a couple of uncut pieces. I am not sure this area is still open to collecting.
Dale made many spheres with that bone. This is the last one and we had it in our collection for many years.
The ball is very nicely agatized and has a great polish. There are a couple of long vugs (natural voids) with tiny quartz crystals.

This petrified palm wood and root sphere is rare and awesome. One does not come across a combination like that too often.
The material for this sphere has both palm wood and root (root/wood interface).
Dale collected the material for and also made this sphere. The sphere shines like glass. There are a couple of small natural vugs.

This petrified palm wood and root sphere is large, rare, and awesome.
The material for this sphere has both palm wood and root (root/wood interface). One does not come across something like that too often.
Dale collected the material for and also made this sphere.
The sphere has a great polish with the exception of one small section with a slight roughness. There are also a few minute surface imperfections (like small vugs) all part of the material and not due to workmanship.

2.95″ Petrified Wood Sphere Fossil SPF29
This petrified wood sphere is indeed a very attractive. The wood is nicely agatized and it actually looks like wood!
Dale made the sphere and his workmanship is outstanding. Although unusual for a fossil, the sphere is flawless and has a wonderful polish.

2.6″ Petrified Peanut Wood Sphere SPF13
This Petrified Peanut Wood sphere represents a great example of “peanut” wood.
Dale made this exquisite sphere and his workmanship is outstanding.
The quality of the material and polish are both excellent. There are fractures always present in petrified wood. The fractures were naturally healed or treated during the sphere making process.
The wood was most likely a conifer and the “peanuts” used to be holes left behind by burrowing teredo mollusks. The holes were eventually filled with matter which was replaced by agate when the remaining of the wood mineralized.

The “peanuts” in this sphere are cream and yellow color in mostly dark background and some of them are missing (see voids in some of the photos). My explanation is that the holes were never filled or the “peanuts were…eaten”.
This Petrified Peanut Wood sphere is a real beauty and an outstanding collectors’ item.
The sphere has a 2.58″ diameter or 65.7 mm and it weighs about 11 oz.
