1.9″ Kimberlite Sphere Rare Rock Ball SPR10
Here’s a sphere you may not have seen before. It is made of Kimberlite, the diamond carrier rock (hopefully there are no diamonds in this one).
Kimberlite forms deep in the earth’s mantle (93-280 miles) and surfaces as a result of eruptions.
Kimberlite, in addition to diamonds, may carry garnet, olivine, ilmenite, and others. This sphere has at least ilmenite (black and steel black), garnet, and olivine.
The sphere has a 1.92″ diameter (48.9 mm) and it weighs about 6 oz.
Origin: The Kimberlite for this sphere comes from the Monastir Mine near the border of Lesotho in So. Africa.
