Rare Spheres

Spheres are rare because the material is rare, they are difficult to make, or it is not economical to mass produce.  Dale made our rare spheres using rare, expensive, and sometimes fragile or otherwise difficult stones to work with from the USA and other countries.

6.5″ Tiffany Stone Sphere Bertrandite Utah USA SPR57

Here’s a tiffany stone sphere that is a rare, very large (6.5″), very heavy (12.6 lbs), and jaw dropping gorgeous . Tiffany stone is a beryllium ore although it only contains a very small percentage of beryllium. They mine the stone in Utah, USA for the beryllium but some of the stone makes it to the rock and gem market (in my opinion not nearly enough).

Other names for Tiffany Stone are opalized fluorite and bertrandite. The Stone is primarily composed of fluorite and it may include small amounts of quartz,  chalcedony, and other minerals such as opal, calcite, dolomite, and bertrandite.

Dale made the sphere and his workmanship is outstanding.

The sphere is very colorful in pastels of pink, peach,  purple,  yellowish and others. Black and white along with brecciations with chalcedony really define the patterns of this material. There are vugs and most with sparkly quartz crystals. The photos were taken in bright sunlight and so the colors look a little lighter than actual.

See more photos of this sphere.

The sphere is also fluorescent. The chalcedony (most of the brecciations) glows a beautiful and vivid green under short wave UV. The ball also fluoresce under long wave UV  (but not as intense) in blues, purples, some pink  and other colors. Check the photos. I apologize for the poor quality of these photos but I think they give an indication of what the ball looks like  under the UV light.

The sphere weighs about 12.6 lbs and it has about 6.5″ diameter (16.5 cm).

Origin: Tiffany stone is mined in one location and that is Spor Mountain in Western Utah, USA.

Shipping is free in the USA. No international shipping for this item.

Price: $4350.00.

Other names for Tiffany Stone are opalized fluorite and bertrandite. The Stone is primarily composed of fluorite and it may include small amounts of quartz,  chalcedony, and other minerals such as opal, calcite, dolomite, and bertrandite.

Dale made the sphere and his workmanship is excellent. However, there are surface imperfections, some porocity, and vugs, not uncommon for this material due to the dissimilar hardnesses of the various minerals involved.

The sphere is very colorful with lots of purple, yellow, pink, and others. See more photos of this sphere.

The sphere is also fluorescent. The chalcedony glows a beautiful and vivid green under short wave UV and mostly on about half of the ball. It is also somewhat fluorescent under long wave UV  (but not as intense).

The sphere weighs about 1.7 lbs and it has about 3.25″ diameter (82.4mm).
